Exchange of Garlands – The bride and the groom are lifted on to the shoulders of family members and friends, and in this position exchange garlands three times for a complete union. According to ancient Hindu philosophy, a garland worn by a person should not be used by another. Whereas here, the exchange of garlands symbolise their unification.
